It has been heavily noted that Dwyane Wade is open to contract talks outside of the Miami Heat for the first time in his career, mostly due to a low ball offer made by Pat Riley. According to ESPN, Wade had a meeting lined up with the New York, before the Knicks went ahead and signed Courtney Lee, while a meeting is still due to happen with the Milwaukee Bucks.

ESPN also later reported that the Heat had stepped up their offer to Wade in an attempt to keep their all-time leading franchise scorer right in South Beach. The offer has been increased to 2 years, $40M, but despite that offer, a source told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne that the two sides are at “a bit of an impasse.” The Heat remain optimistic that the two sides will get a deal done.

With the gong show of free agency taking its sharpest turn, Kevin Durant signed with the Golden State Warriors, further cementing their spot as favorites to reclaim the Larry O’Brien Trophy. The Durant ripple effect is already taking shape, with rumors that Dwyane Wade took a private jet with LeBron James and Cavaliers majority owner, Dan Gilbert.

The rumors began last night when a member of the Cleveland media tweeted out a link to a flight tracker website, which showed a private jet en route from Fort Lauderdale to Cleveland.

Adding more fuel to the fire was “Mr. Cavalier”, Austin Carr’s (Cavaliers broadcaster and number retired by the Cavs) son Jason posting on his Facebook page “Wade in Cleveland is a done deal”. Carr was also correct in predicting the Kevin Love-Cleveland trade a few days before its confirmation back in 2014.

The Cavaliers are tied down with signing any big name free agents due to the contracts already on the books. The key to anything happening between the Cavs and Wade, is LeBron James. James opted out of his contract and is expected to -resign with the team under another 2 year deal with a player option.

LeBron James would need to take a pretty severe pay cut to enable the Cavaliers to swing money at DWade, or hope the Heat would work with them in a sign and trade. Much like the situation that saw James “take his talents to South Beach”. But if there is any one person on earth that James might take such a cut, it would be his best friend, Dwyane Wade.

The Warriors have created their own unstoppable super-team in the Western Conference, it seems the Cleveland Cavaliers are making in attempt to match their greatness.
